DIY with Metal Foil Leaf

I got “Spring Fever” pretty quickly this year. However, I wanted to wait to get through Easter before I started working on my Spring ideas. One thing I have always wanted to try to do was a DIY with metal foil leaf. I did it a few things and I am hooked, hooked, hooked!!

DIY with metal foil leaf
Here are some DIY metal foil leaf items that I made.

Remember I said I had “Spring Fever”? Well, I love decorating with bird nests and bird eggs this time of year. One of the easier, least expensive piece I made can be seen here in the pics below.

Wood frame
Here is a plain small wooden frame that I purchased at the Dollar Tree.
calendar
Embarrassing as it is that I show you this, I have an old Duke Power calendar from 1995 that has some really cute bird pics.
bird and bird nest
I decided to cut out the bird with the bird’s nest from my Duke Power calendar to go in my small wood frame.
Waverly Agave paint
First, I wanted to paint my frame a color similar to a bird egg blue. I found this Waverly Agave paint at Wal Mart.

I painted my frame the Agave blue color.
metal foil leaf
I purchased some metal foil leaves and metal leaf glue on Amazon. These foils are very dainty but very easy to use.

Basically you randomly brush small areas of glue all over the frame and place some metal foils on the glue. It will look like this at first. Let it dry like this.

After the glue dries take a dry paint brush and brush away the loose pieces of foil that did not adhere to the glue. You can see here the final result.
paper mache egg and bunny
I also found these paper mache egg and bunny at Target. I decided to paint and foil these babies also!!!!!

Happy Spring!!!!
