Springtime Bird Nest DIY

Springtime is my favorite time of the year. If pollen could be eliminated Spring would be the PERFECT season! During this time of year we have the privilege of watching baby birds hatch and “fly the coup”. Our house seems to be a haven for birds to build bird nests. This gave me the inspiration for a Springtime DIY.

Bird Nest DIY

In this DIY project I used the following:

  1. Eggs from Hobby Lobby
  2. Bird nest (that we recycled from a real bird nest at our house). There are several DIY tutorials on how to build your own bird nest. Here is a DIY bird nest tutorial if you don’t happen to have a spare bird nest at your house (like I did).
  3. Picture frame with the background covered in a buffalo plaid material. I use this particular frame ALOT…I recycle it for several project.

There are a couple of options you can consider for this project. I decided to use the picture frame as a “tray” and let my bird nest sit on it. The main reason I did that was because my bird nest was so heavy and bulky (whatever bird built my nest must have been a contractor by profession….there was a lot of mud used so it was quite heavy). I would have preferred to have a lighter less bulky nest that I could affix inside the picture frame. I could have glued the eggs into the nest and glued the nest inside the frame….then I could have displayed like a framed picture (hanging on the wall).
